Forklift Operators Safety Tips





Essential Forklift Safety Tips


1) Watch the placement of your hands and feet. Be aware and stay clear of catch points such as the wheels and lift gears.
2) Stay under the overhead guard. Keep your hands feet and head inside the forklift at all times.
3) Always look out for pedestrians, obstructions low level doorways, hazards unique to your workplace etc when operating your forklift.
4) When operating the forklift in busy locales watch out for pedestians, other machinery operating, blind intersections etc always drive slowly.
5) Do not allow passengers to ride with you on any forklift unless it is specifically designed to carry more then one person.
6) Never use forklifts as elevators to lift or raise people (bare fork arms or empty pallets) for any reason. Do not lift anyone unless you are using a workcover approved workplatform that is securely fitted to machine.
7) When the forks are raised with or without a load, never walk or stand under them.
8) Always use your horn when approaching or reversing, towards blind corners or intersections or when entering or departing through doors or anywhere else where your vision is blocked or limited.
9) Use you seat belt and check that the warning lights and reversing beeper alarms work before operating any forklift truck.
10) Do not entice unauthorized people to operate your forklift always remove the key when unattended.
11) If your forklift starts to tip over, DON’T JUMP! Stay in your seat, grip the wheel securely while bracing yourself with your feet.
12) Remember the most significant safety device on a forklift IS YOU!
